Updated: Apr 15

This Garlic Steak Stir-Fry is made with juicy marinated steak, fresh veggies, and a simple citrusy stir-fry sauce.

The stir-fry sauce is made with fresh oranges and lemon, giving it a delicious citrusy flavor that pairs perfectly with the soy sauce base. Feel free to customize the veggies in this recipe-- sometimes we'll add carrots, broccoli, and even eggs. This is a great recipe for clearing out the fridge.

  • Mixing Bowl

  • Wok

  • Microplane/Zester

  • Citrus Juicer

  • Mandoline

  • Steak (sirloin, ribeye, flank, skirt steak)

  • Garlic

  • Oranges

  • Lemon

  • Fresh ginger

  • Sugar snap peas

  • Red bell pepper

  • White onion

  • Baby Bok Choy

  • Green onions

  • Sesame oil

  • Soy sauce, low-sodium

  • Rice vinegar

  • Black pepper, coarse

  • Cornstarch

  • Baking soda

  • Garlic powder

  • Salt

DIRECTIONS

STEP 1: MARINATE
  • Thinly slice the steak to about 1/8-inch thickness (TIP: freeze it for about 30 minutes before slicing to make it easier to cut thinly).

  • Combine the cornstarch, baking soda, garlic powder, and soy sauce in a medium bowl.

  • Add the steak and fully coat it in marinade.

  • Let it marinate in the fridge for up to 24 hours, or at least 30 minutes.

STEP 2: CITRUS STIR-FRY SAUCE
  • In a mixing bowl, combine the chopped garlic, soy sauce, orange juice, lemon juice, sesame oil, rice vinegar, black pepper, ginger, and salt to taste.

  • Set aside half for the stir-fry and save the rest for serving.

STEP 3: STIR-FRY
  • Add a few tablespoons of cooking oil to the wok over medium heat.

  • Sauté the thinly sliced garlic until just beginning to brown and become fragrant, then strain the garlic from the wok so it doesn't burn.

  • Add in the steak and cook for a few minutes, then set aside.

  • Add the veggies and sauté until beginning to soften, then add back the steak, and about half of the Citrus Stir-Fry Sauce.

  • Mix everything together then remove from heat.

STEP 4: SERVE
  • Serve over white rice and top with sliced green onion and the fried garlic.
